Established to build a stronger community and promote economic self-sufficiency by providing women in poverty with professional support services & career development tools for success.

What We Do

My Sister’s Closet of Monroe County, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, uses proven tools, mentoring/training, and advocacy services, to help vulnerable women living in poverty and at-risk circumstances find economic success and self-sufficiency.

Our Philosophy

We do this by re-marketing these women to potential employers, so they are seen as credible, reliable, and respectful job applicants. The result is significant improvement in their ability to find gainful employment, which reduces homelessness and multi-generational poverty.

How do we accomplish our mission?

My Sister’s Closet accomplishes its mission through a series of Core Client Services. These proven tools, mentoring, life skills training, and advocacy services combined with an exceptional clothing program using a Compassion Through Fashion philosophy.

What are our guiding principles?

  1. Every woman should have the opportunity to provide for the basic needs of herself and her family.

  2. Women experience unique challenges to success because of their physical attributes, societal prejudices, or traditional roles, as well as responsibilities as mothers or caregivers. These differences can sometimes mean they will have more difficulty moving forward to become self-sufficient and, thus need more community assistance to help them succeed.

  3. We believe that by changing the current economic circumstances of mothers, you increase the chances of their children thriving and finding life success as they get older.

  4. It is vital to the success of our society that women are provided with the ability to become positive role models and mentors.

  5. Ultimately, life happiness for all of us is determined by the millions of meaningful connections we continually make when choosing our positive networks, using our spare time constructively, nurturing our bodies, and the way we act as stewards of our environment.
